UA Medicare Part D

A hand holding a bottle of prescription drugs.

On January 1, 2006, Medicare began providing insurance coverage for prescription drugs through a program called Medicare Part D. Insurance companies and other private companies work with Medicare to provide a choice of plans which cover both brand name and generic drugs. If your senior customers are currently enrolled in Medicare Parts A and/or B, they qualify for the new Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage.

Medicare will pay a substantial portion of the total monthly premium for this insurance coverage. Medicare Part D protects seniors if their drug spending is more than $3,600 in a year. Even if they don't use a lot of prescription drugs now, they should consider joining.
